Ode to a Mothering MAYA ANGELOU.
“People will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
― Maya Angelou
Ode to a Mothering Maya
In this month
like a broken,
broke poet I wish I can too
show up at anytime
at your garden
and doorsteps to be also charmed.
I too dear,
I lack of funds
but never of ideas.
My dreams are flowing wild
like your loving silvery dark
magical dread locks flow in the dark.
If you were my mother,
or grandmother
I would be as curious as a child,
and lean closer to you over the rug
and ask you to let me feel
the rope of love, of your locks,
that falls from your wise head to your toes.
And as children do I see myself
cheerfully gasping and smiling at the woman
who nurtured my imagination with her stories and books!
But my point here,
Dear unknowing Mentor and Friend,
is that for me you were or are not
like any ordinary earth being.
No Mam!
You are an angel on earth, at least to me....
There’s this aura around you,
bright as a daylight,
filled with soft pastel colors
yellow, blue, and even green
twirling around you.
And that makes me believe Ms. Angelou,
that your are as closer to our mother earth
as you are as closer to heaven as well.
(It saddens me knowing that soon after this poem,
you parted from us and this world. And I could not
share it with you as I wished to do.)
But it gives me some hope,
Mrs. Maya Angelou,
that all of your sincere love,
have earned you a golden door in heaven
and that is better than any Oscars, Grammy,
Tony, or Nobel Price, or even a Pulitzer anyone can get.
And all of those young artists
that more than once knocked at your door,
even at night, sad, and empty handed,
and later left your home with their souls
filled with hopes
and larger pockets,
with even much larger dreams
than the ones that they've brought in,
they will see, what their pride could not see....
They will know,
that their motherly guardian angel Maya Angelou
is still waiting at the same door,
to received them back
like she did before,
when they were no one,
when they had no name for themselves.
Like she did when they has no riches,
nor glories to brag about,
not even a wallet, or a cell, or a roof over their heads.
They will know, they will see then,
how lucky they really were.
But you Mentor, you are serene,
calm, and you never complaint
if to call you back
one day they forget,
you forgive and forget
if to you they distant themselves,
or if they forget on purpose the steps
to your warm welcoming doors,
and your sweet as chocolate face
readily to happily greet a friend.
Not you. You don't complaint.
And in silence you await.
Just like a concerned mother
or a loving father would do,
you patiently and quietly go on
knowing way deep in your heart
that later on your children,
to your open doors and arms,
will always come back!
You patiently and quietly go on
with your daily tasks and events in life
And one day when you are long gone,
like migrating birds
those long lost friends
will always come back home!
To you Maya
and to what you have left inside all of us!....

Letter to www.AllPoetry.com
Hi, my name is Evelyn Rodriguez-Lallave.
I found out I have used words from option 1, as the guidelines indicated, yet the option 2 was my preferred choice. So I'm submitting this poem using the option 2 guides.

“We write for the same reason that we walk, talk, climb mountains or swim the oceans — because we can. We have some impulse within us that makes us want to explain ourselves to other human beings. That’s why we paint, that’s why we dare to love someone- because we have the impulse to explain who we are. Not just how tall we are, or thin… but who we are internally… perhaps even spiritually. There’s something, which impels us to show our inner-souls. The more courageous we are, the more we succeed in explaining what we know.”

SITE RESPOSE:
Welcome to Allpoetry
You have done well with your prompt option, I can see you have worked very hard on it using imagery and tone to open up your word picture for your reader to experience and enjoy it to the full. You been able to do credit to your chosen prompt option... some of the words really do stand out:
"let me feel the rope of love"
great metaphor there... also,
"you patiently and quietly go on
knowing way deep in your heart
that later on your children,
to your open doors and arms,
will always come back!"
These words have such a strong feeling of hope and quiet determination. Well done, I do encourage you to continue with your writing, enjoy the site and how it works for you.
Thank you for taking the time and effort to enter the contest. Just ask if you need any help ....

Raiven - Welcome to AllPoetry.
So true your last line.. they do indeed always come back a bit like a homing arrow straight back to where they belong.. or that is how it should be with family and caring parents I wait to see my two older daughters and long to see them and give them a big hug.. It can be very difficult letting go, especially an over protective Mom like me. But I know they will return to my nest one way or the other and should listen to your pen.
You are so wise Poet and I could learn a thing or too... like letting them free and knowing that my heart goes with them and they are not gone for long.
Fabulous entry! Thank you
